Mumbai witnesses rare, ancient maritime theatre performances

www.sunday-guardian.com: Thursday evening witnessed a lavish display of Chavittu Natakam — the ancient art of Maritime theatre practised by the Portuguese Catholics who first came to Kerala in the 15th century at the Y.B. Chavan Auditorium. A mixture of Kathakali and martial arts, the performances are generally based on stories of European kings and queens. Fencing and foot stomping are also used in a major way. The four-day festival in Mumbai is hosted by Keli, a charitable organisation working towards the preservation of this dying art form from Kerala.
