RC4 Wireless Improves Efficiency on Wicked’s UK Tour, Keeps Safety and Quality High
Stage Directions: The UK and Ireland touring production of Wicked recently re-tooled its scenic and technical elements to keep the touring troupe’s production values as high as the West End version but its shipping volume low. In order to do that the design team decided to eliminate the cables that fed moving scenic elements and replace them with a range of powerful and compact wireless DMX products from RC4 Wireless. Products include in the show include RC4 LumenDim4 4-channel low voltage dimmers, RC4 LumenData receivers (both of which use LumenRadio CRMX rf technology) and SuperNova software from Lumen Radio. The production scenic lighting electrician on Wicked, Mike Ward, has nothing but praise for RC4’s kit: “We created a number of powerful and flexible systems that were small enough to fit into small spaces yet also robust and easy to use. The system has been totally stable from day one.”

I was at USITT last year when the owner of RC4 Wireless came on stage and announced their new lifetime warranty for their products. They really really really seem to believe in the rock solid reliability of their products. It's cool to see their use on such a high profile production such as Wicked. In particular, the article mentioned that the tour is for the first time using RDM and that this is actually the first major use of RDM in the UK. It is exciting that this relatively new technology is finally being used in a big way. I can only hope that this trend continues!
