This article was really cool and shows how important digital art and innovations are important to the movies. Computer animation and digital artistry can really help transform the big and silver screen into a different world. We have so many more resources for creating films today than we ever used to and it is so important to use those tools right. I do think there does need to be balance between computer digitized scenes and real built environments. I think that sets still need to be wonderfully detailed and grand so that the computer animation has am appropriate canvas to work with. I think this combination will help viewers be transported to the different worlds portrayed in film.
I actually did not know that awards were given to the software behind the art, but it makes a lot of sense that they are. Especially in animation, as technology advances, there are more and more programs that are able to enhance the work of the artists, as opposed to the more of less hand-drawn pieces of earlier times. As for the computer generated effects, it still amazes me how well people are able to create something out of nothing and integrate it fairly seamlessly into filmed performances. The technology that allows such work definitely deserves to be recognized.
