The union representing the singers, dancers and production staff at the Metropolitan Opera is telling its members to expect an “epic battle” in upcoming contract talks.
The American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) said on Tuesday evening that it has warned its members that the opera company will lock them out if they don’t accept pay cuts of 10 to 15 percent and other, unspecified work rule changes.

When cutting back, why must the worker always be the first to suffer? I don't locking the doors of the met will prevent dissent amongst workers; and besides the Met needs to keep those doors wide open for the customers they claim they so desperately need. Ever since the recession, whenever a company loses a couple of millions, they freak out: the Met went from 99 million dollars to 93 million dollars; is that the performer's fault or must we look at entire company?
