J.R. Clancy Clarifies Stance on Annual Rigging System Inspections: Get Them
Stage Directions: In order to ease any confusion about rigging system inspections, J.R. Clancy has issued a statement saying that their corporate policy matches the ANSI Code for powered hoist systems and that they “strongly recommend that you follow the ANSI code and inspect your system annually”—whether or not it’s under warranty. While they stand behind their products—“Your J. R. Clancy rigging system should operate perfectly for many years”—they recommend theatres give their systems an annual inspection by a qualified professional in order to help you be sure that “no alterations have been made to the system by accidents, equipment issues, or human error” and to limit theatres’ liability.

I feel like this is kind of a no duh. When you have lives on the line, safety should be the top priority. If a line-set comes crashing down due to lack of inspection, nobody is going to want to take responsibility for failing to schedule one. Although it may not be the most favorite item to include in an annual budget, safety inspections of critical gear and equipment should be a must.
