Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Undergraduates at Carnegie Mellon University will see tuition increase on average by 2.9 percent for the 2014-15 academic year, officials announced today.
Total attendance costs, including tuition, room and board, will range from $61,186 to $60,266, depending on year of study.
Under Carnegie Mellon’s tiered price system, undergraduate tuition will be $48,030 for incoming students and those who entered in fall 2013, the university announced in a campus email.

The fact that CMU is raising tuition really sucks. There should really be a policy that the price that people pay for their freshmen year is the same price that they pay all four years, and the cost for incoming students is the cost that should be raised. This may not seem fair to the incoming class, but it would be better than a raise in tuition affecting the financial plans of current students and potentially forcing them to leave the university. I think it would be worth it to pay a bit more to ensure that the cost won't change. Also, something interesting I read about the cost of universities is that some were giving out so much financial aid that they decided to cut back a lot on how much they gave out and lowered tuition as a whole. Another thing is that because of the massive size of Harvard's endowment, they could afford to make tuition free for all students just by using the annual interest on it.
