Local No.3 Wins decision affirming union representation for Stage Technicians
PITTSBURGH(September 27, 2012)…Stage Technicians
at the August Wilson Center for African American Culture – AWC in Pittsburgh
voted unanimously for union representation by the International
Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees - IATSE Local No.3 during a National
Labor Relations Board election held Wednesday, September 26, 2012.
These employees work lighting, sound, audio-visual,
special effects, and props, for theatrical productions at the August Wilson
Center,980 Liberty
Avenuedowntown Pittsburgh. The August Wilson Center is one of only two
major arts institutions in the world named for Pulitzer Prize and Tony
Award-winning playwright and Pittsburgh native August Wilson. The August Wilson
Center for African American Culture engages regional and national audiences in
its mission of preserving, presenting, interpreting, celebrating and shaping
the art, culture and history of African Americans from Western Pennsylvania as
a foundation.
We are proud of these talented technical and craft
employees who have chosen IATSE Local No.3 as their representative in
negotiations for a contract with the August Wilson Center for African American
Culture. IATSE Local No.3 looks forward to partnering with the August
Wilson Center through a good faith negotiating process based on the arts
organization commitment to community and history.
IATSE Local No.3 was chartered in 1887 and is one of
the oldest unions and represents Stagehands in theatrical lighting, sound, set
construction, rigging, properties, hair and make-up for events in Pittsburgh
and southwest Pennsylvania.
