Canada: North America's Coolest Country

The New Republic: If you've been listening to music, or reading books or paying attention to movies this year—all in all, if you've been vaguely conscious—you've probably noticed something strange, like a breeze of cold air or a whiff of syrup. You've sensed that your pop stars are bit more likeable than usual, your Hollywood hunks seem more polite and your hipster literary icons more self-deprecating. Don't panic. Just let the Canadian cultural invasion take you in, caress you with its be-mittened hands, and soothe you as it sings, "Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy …"

i really want to say this "News" is more like an Ad. but i have to commit that Canada IS the coolest country of north america. i still remember the first time i flight from Beijing to Chicago, we fly over Canada in that morning. i watch outside the window, i can see everything as we were flying really low, and what i saw shocked me until now. i have been to Russia for a long time and am really familiar with cold climate. but the view in Canada is not only the "ice world", you can also feel something else here. you can see the harmony of bad weather and local people, you can see light spot in the middle of nowhere, you can see everything that supposed to be imagined in a fantasy movie. by the way, as we only have two country in north america, did this news just turn the States to the north america's least cool country??

I think the most interesting part of this article, is that it has to be a surprise that Americans are enjoying and looking to other places for their cultural tastes. Lest we not forget that America is made up of a combination of many cultural heritages and that there is so little that is truly "American" through and through and lacks influence from other cultures. Even our dear hamburgers and hot dogs are based off of German foods, and apple pie certainly isn't native to America considering that colonists had to bring apple seeds with them to America. The point being, what makes America what it is, is a combination of cultures and the acceptance of those as our own. Canada has already spiced up a dulled American culture with fantastic music such as Arcade Fire and Grimes, and though I won't call it an "advancement" in culture, "Call Me Maybe" has certainly had an impact. Europe influenced America, Asia influenced America, now it's Canada's turn.
