Live Sound: Case Study: The Ceremonies Audio System Design At The London 2012 Olympic Games
Pro Sound Web: Once L-Acoustics was selected as the loudspeaker of choice for the sound system at the Olympic Stadium for the Olympics and Paralympics at London 2012, the collective team faced a huge task.
Exceptional sound was required to electrify a brand-new stadium with a capacity of 80,000 for opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics and Paralympics as well as for every single athletic event held within the Olympic Stadium over a 29-day period in total.

One thing that I love reading about in these articles is how a company or production team meets necessary requirements for, not only the venue, but the large scale of the show, in this case the Olympics. It was important to measure up the massive stadium as well as the talent performing. it is interesting to see how the best of the best put on what could be considered one of the most challenging productions of the year. Listing the equipment used also helps to understand what was necessary to accomplish such an event.
simone is right - its always interesting getting a glimpse into some of the largest productions in the world through these articles. every venue, production, and set brings different challenges to the table and seeing how others approached these obstacles increases our awareness as developing designers and technicians. Sound for a huge venue like this is hard, I know when they opened Dallas Cowboys Stadium they had horrible sound issues. These articles are always enlightening.
