RIGGERS' FORUM FOR NORTH OF ENGLAND ANNOUNCED
PLASA Focus: Leeds 2013 - Welcome: PLASA Events has announced the addition of a new event to run alongside its ever popular northern trade show, PLASA Focus: Leeds 2013. The PLASA Riggers' Forum will take place on Tuesday 30 April, at the Royal Armouries at Clarence Dock, only a short distance from Leeds City Centre.

Leeds is a great place for a conference like this! But this seems like a fairly short event for a rigging forum (only three hours) when so many participants will have to travel. The article mentions the forum is a part of PLASA's Northern Trade Show. If this is an opportunity offered as part of or in conjunction with the show with overlapping dates that makes sense, but as a lone event it lacks. BUT I will say that either way, it is good to have this forum. I know there is a Production Manager's Forum that meets twice a year in the states and provides a network of references and information so it is good to see that high skill but not necessarily managerial positions are having a forum as well. Plus there will undoubtably be much discussion of safety (being run by PLASA) which is always a big issue that seems to get overlooked.
I would have to agree with Meg on this one. It seems somewhat unfair to those who come from out of town to only have the event take 3 hours. It seems like alongside with having a forum, the organization more activities such as demonstrations, workshops, seminars, or even conventions and job fairs. On the other hand, realistically seeking the size of the audience for such a specific event like this one might be perfectly suitable for such an accelerated forum.
