Canadian Stage’s new mantra: Less is more
The Globe and Mail: Since taking control of Toronto’s largest non-for-profit theatrical laboratory three years ago, mad scientist (aka artistic and general director) Matthew Jocelyn has aimed and fired his shrink-ray gun at just about everything.

I commend Canadian Stage's decision to shrink themselves, as it could not have been an easy one to make. I think it is really smart to look at it as a bigger picture and see that they need to take some kind of radical action. When you are really invested in a company like this, it must be hard to want to try anything that does not completely save it as it is or make it larger. To intentionally make it smaller takes some guts, but most likely saved them from having to shut down completely.
The idea of 'right sizing' is interesting and makes sense. If you can't afford to continue to operate at your current size, regardless of what business you're in, then downsizing is preferable to going out of business. Plus, since it seems as though the Canadian Stage's previous approach to productions was not working, this new approach might give the company enough wiggleroom for them to find new tactics that work better
