NBA All-Stars Rock the "Bells" With Synchronized Dribbling
Co.Create: Creativity \ Culture \ Commerce: First came the barking dogs, then came Beckham’s balls; now, another unlikely noise is being used to approximate a famous tune. Okay, it’s balls again, but this time they’re of the basket-variety, so it’s totally different.

First off I love the fact that when you watch someone is talented at something it looks sooo easy. My skills are not with a basketball and never will be. I love to play but I am horrible. I loved the video. The players are intense. If you watch the video a few times they are intently staring forward and the Heat player is constantly watching to see what other people are doing. Also did they design special basketballs for the show because there are noticeable different sounds from the balls. That is pretty cool if they did change the balls or it could be the floor. Or it could be something in post production. I am a believer so I will believe they did it all.
The first time I watched this video, I couldn't really hear the rhythm of the Christmas song. The second time, I heard it and thought it was really cool and clever. This is a really great way for companies to market themselves. However, I don't know how I feel about companies taking advantage of religious holidays in order to make money. Christmas, as well as many other holidays today, are so commercialized, and personally, I think it gets to be too much. I understand the joy and excitement that comes with the holidays, but I don't think it's necessary for all of these companies to take such a huge advantage and milk it in every way possible. But then again, it's how you make money, so you do what you have to do. Definitely something to think about.
This isn't one of my comments, since it's not going to be very substantive but... this was SO COOL. Especially since I just watched a terrible terrible terrible basketball game last night, I needed this.
Like Adam, I wonder how this was accomplished. To do it live the balls would have to have different amounts of air in them in order to have different amounts of air pressure. The balls could be made out of different material, or the floor could be made of different materials. Of course, like Adam said it could all have been done in post-production. That way all the players would have to focus on is the rhythm. But, also like Adam, I like to think that they did it all live and just recorded the sounds as is.
I got to thinking, they couldn't have altered the balls in anyway to change the sound. Because the material on the floor wouldn't really change the pitch or tone. And if you took air out of the ball it would just be flat, and would have an irregular bounce.
So the next question is how the heck did they shoot in one take or even get all the players together at the same time....I'm not so convinced one way or another and rather skeptical at this point, so I did some snooping aaaaaaaaaand the answer is......POST-PRODUCTION!!!!!!
Below is a 'how it's made clip'.

Wow, that just made my entire night. That was so cool and super impressive. Although I really looked like they were all watching a screen of some sort, and I realize they most likely edited it post production, it is still a great video and advertisement. It is such a great idea for a commercial not only because its fun and uses famous faces but because it is so memorable and is something that is likely to be shared from person to person and therefor promote itself. Actually the first thought I had when I saw this was that I should email it to my dad and brother because they would get such a kick out of it.
I like how they took such a normal simple task such as dribbling and made it into something inspirational for those of us who chose to look past the "unreal-ness" of it
I would be interested to see what it would be like if you practiced this with even more people.
This is an interesting idea to do for the holidays, for an advertisement, but I feel that it is not all that clear what they are trying to sell when you first watch the ad till the end and even seeing it a second time. Also I did not get jingle bells the first time that I listened to the film but it is a great idea and I am sure that a lot of people will enjoy it. It is kind of corny and I am sure that we will see a lot more of these type of adds in the coming weeks because of all of the holidays to come in the next month. But over all I have yet to see to many of these compared to normal. I hope that this ad works out well for all of them.
