I really like the idea of this production. As someone from New York who grew up in a household of crazy Yankees fans, this show hits on a personal level with me. Beyond that, I think it is great for two American past times to join together and create something. There normally aren't many plays and musicals about sports, and I think this production has the potential to draw a different crowd to the theater, which is exciting all on its own. It seems to also be really smart on the producers' part to be putting on this show on Broadway, in the center of New York City, where New Yorkers will be drawn heavily to this show (unless they're Mets fans...) Overall, this is something I'd be interested to see, and not just because I'm a fan of both theatre and the Yankees!
I am huge fan of the theatre. In fact I am getting an M.F.A. in Theatre Technology and Production Management. And I have been a baseball fan since I was in five years old and I watch the St. Louis Cardinals win the World Series. Sport and the theatre have many similarities. They are both observational activities. There is Drama in each. We follow our favorite stars. We buy merchandise. We talk about our favorite parts with our friends. This seems like a match made in Big Apple heaven. The one down side is. . . I have absolutely no desire to see this show. I would rather watch Annie. ANNIE. Good luck to the producers but this seems like a match made in boring town.
. . . And this is an industry that has made decent shows out of cats, the game of chess, the life of Eva Peron and a man stuck in a hole!
