TribLIVE: An especially lush list of recent hits and promising new and re-imagined works await theatergoers this season.
Heading the must-see list is “War Horse” (Nov. 13 to 18, Benedum Center), the National Theatre of London’s epic production and 2011 Tony Award winner for best play.
Presented by PNC Broadway Across America — Pittsburgh, its artful puppetry brings drama and immediacy to an epic tale of a boy and his horse caught up in the slaughter of World War I.

I am really glad that I go to a school that is in a city that has so many opportunities to see good theatre. I wish that I was more able to take advantage of these opportunities. Often I feel that there is not even time to sleep in my life so how would there ever be time to go out to a show. It is not hard to get caught in the world of the Purnell bubble. This is a great reminder of all the wonderful opportunities outside this bubble.
I am happy to see that some of the past few year's Tony-winning shows are headed to our city. I am from New York and, while there, try to see as much theatre, on and off-Broadway as possible. I have had the privilege to see many of the recent Tony-award winning plays and musicals in New York. However, I have not seen all of the productions headed to Pittsburgh, and am thrilled to have productions from home coming here to our city. I will hopefully be able to take advantage of this opportunity, and continue to enjoy the endless other joys Pittsburgh has to offer!
I would never go as far to say that Pittsburgh is a cultural mecca, but it does get a fair amount of artistic presence from touring shows. I have worked with the cultural trust peripherally, and I have found there commitment to ensuring Pittsburgh has this kind of cultural presence to be great. They recognize the importance of Pittsburgh success to lie in ensuring cultural people live in this city, and this is one way to ensure it. As a drama student, I couldn't be happier.
yes. yes. yes! I am so excited for this! When I went to NY for my interview I had the pleasure of seeing 3 broadway performances, but I had hoped I'd have the time to see others as well. Sadly, I didn't have the time. But now I'll have the chance to see them. I find these shows to be such a great way to add more culture to pittsburgh. Whether you're a theatre person or not, the names of most of these shows are well known and will make people interested in going. It's great to see theatre touring in such great places such as pittsburgh to get theatre out to more people. I can't wait for this!
