NBC's 'Fashion Star' Walkout: Producers Ask to Meet With IATSE

11 This is a good example of the power of unions and their rights. The ability to strike, in any business is crucial especially in the entertainment industry when it can be illegal to replace workers with non union men. Bargaining rights are what guarantees the workers that they will have the advantage of gaining benefits and fair pay.
I feel as though pension and health benefits are a common problems across the board for workers. It is just an interesting point to pick out.
This article doesnt really have much depth to it, and it is unclear to me if they currently have a union contract, and just want a better one. It sounds like they do not have a union contract, or maybe not a current one, which is odd for them to be working on the show already without a contract. It seems like all of this should have been settled before starting the shooting of the second season, but I guess we all know things dont work that way. It doesnt seem like it should be hard to make an IA contract that is acceptable because of the regulations that IA already stipulates. Also, if it has been done in the past, why can't it be done now?
