Threat of zombies forces theater to cancel show
State of the Arts | Minnesota Public Radio: Imagine you're at the theater enjoying a civilized evening of culture, featuring a classic play by Tennessee Williams.
Suddenly you hear pounding and screaming in the distance. Murmurs turn to disturbed whispers in the audience as even the actors are distracted by the growing noise.
Suddenly the lobby doors break open and you are confronted by a horde of zombies, dripping blood and crying out for fresh brains!

Well... it is like the Santa pub crawl but different. I'm glad that the "crawl" part or pub crawl is literal. Having people dress up and go out is a fun idea, why not unite them with a zombie theme. It is certainly going overboard when you interrupt a show that is going on. Having zombie day line up with the opening of the show is almost a little too suspicious. Why disturb a theater of play goers that bought tickets to be taken away into a Tennessee Williams world? I don't know what point their proving, there are just as many people in the street that can be entertained by this visual display of people. It seems like the people that are running the show are trying to put up a strong front but it is incredibly rude of the living dead to ruin whatever work was going up that day.
The idea of the zombie crawl sounds really fun, but not when it disturbs the community in such a huge way. Like the poster wrote above, it is not fair to the actors and creative team who put in so much work to the theater's production, nor to the audience members who paid money for tickets. If the zombies invade the theater regularly every year, I am sure they also invade other stores and public areas in the community. If I was a member of this community, especially a parent, I would be extremely concerned. If I had kids and all of a sudden 1,500 zombies came stampeding down the street, I would be extremely upset. The zombie crawl is a great idea but it seems like it needs more organization and guidelines as to how far the zombies can crawl.
Zombies should be a fun thing. The fact that people are starting to take this subculture so seriously is kind of.....weird. Just like any subculture, you have your die hards. I mean, there are people who believe these things actually exist. However, when this type of group gathers enough people to be disruptive, it becomes a problem. Everyone should be able to have their fun without disturbing events which occur around it. SAying you want to have a zombie crawl is okay. Saying you want to have a zombie crawl that will threaten to shut down performances and other community events is not cool. It's kind of like a protest......a really weird, ugly, pointless protest.
Alright, so I realize that I should be outraged at how disrespectful the terrifying zombie crowd is being, setting no bounds to their invasion of the community and whanot. I mean, yes, they shouldn't burst into a performance in progress; it's rude and all sorts of awful things. But let's be honest here, I totally love the idea of a theater being invaded by a crowd of crawling, crazed zombies. That's a performance in itself! Unconventional, probably ill-planned and staged, but spontaneous and put on for the sake of having fun and being absolutely ridiculous. Hey, that almost sounds like what theater can be about sometimes..
Not even taking theatre into account here, this would just annoy me. I have no problem with people organizing this and having fun within limits, but when it gets to the point where it is affecting the business of other venues in the community, it becomes a bit too much. I'm actually surprised that it hasn't become more of an issue. I've seen business owners call the police for much less. It doesn't seem right to have the entire community pretty much shut down for this.
