It is interesting that an MFA is required for a staff position. I understand that this is likely a teaching position, but here we have a number of incredibly talented educators on staff without them. It raises an interesting discussion on who can teach young minds how, especially in a skill/trade dominant profession. There is something to be said about having a higher degree, but when you look at a number of undergraduate programs (such as here) where the graduate and undergraduate programs are so similar, is it really necessary? I am certain there are a number of fine mentors and potential teachers being overlooked since they had undergraduate degrees that allowed them to go directly into the work force. And going back to school is a lot, maybe not worth it for some people.
