‘Born Yesterday’ has political message both timely, timeless

TribLIVE: As politicians, voters and pundits enter the final phase of the 2012 election cycle, Pittsburgh Public Theater opens its 2012-13 season with a play that’s both classic and timely. It’s been 66 years since Garson Kanin’s comedy “Born Yesterday” debuted on Broadway with its behind-the-scenes look at the influence peddling and secret deals of Washington politics.

A show about politics during a heightened political climate, how convenient. No doubt remounting this 66-year-old production during this time was on purpose... smart move for the Public's box office. Some argue that comedy is the best form of communication, especially in reference to controversial topics such as politics, and I think the Public took that idea and ran with it by putting up this show. When this production opens up to the general public, it'll be interesting to see how the audience will react or what they'll be thinking/talking about when they leave the theater and if and how it will relate to their feelings of today's political climate.
