The Old Globe Launches Old Globe Community Voices Project
Stage Directions: The Old Globe theatre in San Diego, Calif., with support from the James Irvine Foundation, has launched The Old Globe Community Voices program, the centerpiece of The Old Globe Residency Project. “Residency” in this sense is more about The Old Globe’s residency in its physical community (as opposed to offering artists residency at the theatre). The Residency project is about helping the theatre connect with their community, and offering more access to The Old Globe for underserved communities. The Old Globe Community Voices will be a series of workshops dedicated to the creation and presentation of short plays by adult residents of San Diego County. The inaugural Community Voices workshops began in September with participants at Victory Outreach Church and The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center. The Globe will partner with local organizations, community theatres, the military community and faith-based groups for the ongoing series of workshops through December 2013.
