Carnegie Mellon University: Fast Company magazine has named Golan Levin, director of the Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry and associate professor of electronic art at Carnegie Mellon University, one of the "50 most influential designers shaping the future." The list is featured in the magazine's October issue, currently on newsstands and online at www.fastcodesign.com.

It is not unusual to see designers and other students/professors at Carnegie Mellon University become famous for their influential works. I am very interested in researching his work and what it is that makes him one of the 50 top influential designers of the future! He seems to have an interesting story and i'd love to meet him and see what he is like. Glad to know CMU has another amazing professor here.
Golan Levin made a purchase at the CMU art store several weeks ago. Our system stalled, and we had to suspend his transaction because he was in a hurry. Little did I know he was probably off to change the world. Or at least had to pee really badly.
It's almost surreal when I read about the outstanding people of CMU. To read about one of our own professors being honored like this makes me happy and proud. Mr Levin wasn't even aware that he had been nominated which, to me, shows his humbleness. His dedication to his student's is evident in this article. Going to China and lecturing on his expertise is such and honor and we are very lucky at Carnegie Mellon to have him on our team.
I think this article illustrates why CMU is so much different than any other program. I will never, ever forget sitting in classes on the first day of school and Kevin Hines telling us "The idea isn't that you'll graduate and successful in the industry, its that you'll graduate and go out and revolutionize the industry with something that is currently unfathomable." Being a great designer is awesome, but being a unique designer is what we are learning to be here - and thats why we become so successful. Golan Levin is an "influential designer shaping the future" not a mainstream design replicator of today. CMU Grads go out and create, not replicate - and thats why were set apart.
Reading this article, I was very excited to see how CMU's professor has been named one of 50 influential designers shaping future. I mean, since CMU offers great programs in arts, I have no doubt this thing happens. I'd definitely love to hear his story on how he went through his life as a designer. Also, I would also want to hear brief summary of what he said in his presentation, "Smart Art," presented in China because I think that will help to navigate my life as a designer too. I hope that CMU can educate a lot of artist in a way that is innovative and that can lead the future.
