The University of Miami’s Department of Theatre Arts seeks applications for a fulltime/full-load Lecturer position of Technical Director. Qualifications: MFA in Technical Production, evidence of effective teaching and professional experience.
The successful candidate will have proven supervisory skills, an ability to work with tight deadlines, experience creating and monitoring budgets, and an up to date knowledge of CAD, carpentry, welding and rigging techniques.
Teaching responsibilities include introductory classes in the area of technical production and supervising lab students in the areas of scenery and scenic paint. Production and administrative duties include maintaining a safe scene shop and stage area, creating cost estimates of set designs for Department of Theatre Arts productions, creating working drawings, participating in and overseeing the completion, installation and strike of all scenic elements, supervising one full-time carpenter, hiring and supervising student employees, attending all technical rehearsals and production meetings for Department of Theatre Arts productions, overseeing annual scenery budget, organizing and maintaining the scene shop facilities and equipment, and others as assigned.
Appointment begins December 3, 2012 and is renewable yearly by the end of the Spring term.
