Variety: "The brewing tuner adaptation of 'American Psycho' has found its creative team, with Duncan Sheik penning music and lyrics and scribe Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa writing the book."
It doesn't look like there's any really new ground being broken with this musical, we've already had several using contemporary music (going back far enough that what once was contemporary is slipping out of the oldies category), shows about serial killers, and even musicals about them. Aside from the time period and motivations of the characters I'd expect that much of the story of Patrick Bateman will already have been covered in telling the story of Benjamin Barker. Even if it has, I'd probably still like to see the resulting work.
I think that this particular adaptation could be disasterous. Music plays an important part in that film (the scene with what I recall was Huey Lewis and the News playing was very iconic). I feel that new music could only add cheese to what is an eerie story. That being said, it could be like a guilty pleasure. While the genre of serial killer musical has been done before, I believe there is room for a new one, just preferably with an original idea.
