Bloomberg.com: "New York’s Roundabout Theatre Co., stung last season by a decline in contributions and investment income, says it’s “starting to see signs of an improved outlook.”
The city’s largest nonprofit theater said in a bond disclosure yesterday that “single ticket sales for the fall season have been very strong,” offsetting a decrease in annual subscription sales."

It is encouraging that (at least) one theater is seeing some turn around in ticket sales. And, while it is not in season subscriptions, single ticket holders are becoming more and more common as people are holding on to their money longer. While I was working in the box office at a theater in Vermont over the winter break, I definitely noticed that people were being much more careful with their money, but they were still buying tickets. Maybe instead of buying a subscription, a former subscriber would only purchase tickets for 4 or 5 shows of choice. Or instead of purchasing tickets in October or November for the family holiday get-together, people were buying tickets a week if not days before the performance.
