You know what I did today? Tried to buy tickets to my shows.

PRODUCER’S PERSPECTIVE: "While there are major benefits to being associated with these companies, it does require us to give up some control . . . which is very difficult for control-freaky Producers like me."

I'm trying to understand why a big time producer on Broadway would be so concerned with whether or not the person that is responsible for simply selling the tickets would know anything about the shows. I never knew part of their responsibility as a sales agent was to know the shows and impart their opinions...

I think it is absolutely ridiculous what the Broadway producers are doing to ticket prices. I think that it is so insane because as a poor college student all I wanted was to see Equus and I damn well paid that $116.00 to see his performance which wasnt even that great?! Now why would I do that? Obviously for my passionate love for theatre! But it is so ridiculous that I had to paid that amount so I think that all the producers should lower their prices and start spreading the love.

I'm no fan of ticketmaster and the like inserting yet another profit stage into my buying tickets. Service is usually poor, and I'm paying even more overhead per performance I want to watch. That said, the author talks as if there is no choice in the matter. Some theatres do sell their own tickets, and don't use a ticket agency. Certainly if customer experience and sales rep knowledge are priorities for him/her it seems like one option would be to not use the ticket agencies. Setting up in-house online stores is only getting easier with time.

I think it is interesting that the producers cares enough to make routine "check-ups" on his shows sales reps. It is a little concerning that the sales persons doesn't know the shows they are selling, but I don't see why the producer needs to really check up on them? There shows are probably doing fine.
