American Gothic as Sitcom; Jumpy Tenor: London Stage

Bloomberg.com: Arts and Culture: "The publicity promised whip-smart lines, gallows humor and enjoyable punch-ups. Those things are certainly present in the London transfer of the Tony-winning Broadway play “August: Osage County.” Whatever quality made it a hit, however, must have got lost in the Atlantic."

I am saddened to hear that "August:Osage County" is not doing very well overseas in London. Sight lines and an overall feeling of static are certainly a problem. I wonder if the stage configuration is different and some how makes the audience member removed from the action. Having not seen the show myself I cannot weigh in much. Has anyone seen the production?

i have to say that when i saw it in new york the script was by far the lead of the show. the set was beautiful and perhaps the only thing that rivaled the quips for me. the staging however i can see being described as stale. its a lot of standing (or sitting) still and talking.
maybe (considering that the show has crossed an ocean) its the audiences sense of humor that is different. the show just might be less accessible for Europeans.

Something certainly must have been lost in this transfer, because this review certainly would not fit with the version currently on Broadway. I would assume that this show just may not play as well to foreign audiences, because it certainly worked well in New York.
