This as a great article! La Cage aux Folles is a show that people need to see to lift your spirits and make you smile. The theater now can offer an escape from the upsetting real world, and I think its important to remind people that this is a much needed function of live performance.
I love La Cage, and this london production sounds amazing. I really want to see the choreography. Also I am usually weary of improvised musicals. It is extremely hard to make a song work as you go. I bet that Improvised the Musical has great nights and some pretty shitty ones as well...
What they say in the first line is really important to remember. in tough times people want a distraction, and what is the purpose of a sequin if not to attract attention to itself? this show is perfect for a country at war, a country in financial crisis, or even just a gloomy day. Revivals like this make me very happy.
i agree with this article that we should look to history for entertainment and the purposes of it. la cage and glitzy shows like it were utilized to bring a depressed population out of their funk, which i think is exactly what we need. simple glamour and glitz to bring us out of our funk.
