Variety: "Broadway's getting ready to nosh on the legit equivalents of mac 'n' cheese and Ben & Jerry's.
Even though B.O. is robust and the season has minted new sales juggernauts (including 'Billy Elliot' and 'All My Sons'), the global economic crisis has unnerved legiters -- just like everyone else."

This could be really bad for theatre as an art form. Because producers are not willing to take as many risks, I think that a lot of new and different plays will fall by the wayside as they produce the old standards. Many important pieces of theatre could be lost forever, and there will be less motivation for playwrights to experiment and innovate. This recession seems like it will stifle creativity in favor of tried-and-true, antiquated works.
