Ambitious 'Shelley' less than sum of its parts

Post Gazette: "What hath Barasch wrought! A great big new music drama about Mary Shelley, that's what -- which means it's also about Shelley's greatest, most notorious creation, the story of Victor Frankenstein and his monster.
But Shirley Barasch's 'Mary Shelley and Her Frankenstein' (there just has to be a better title), staged only through tomorrow by the Tuesday Musical Club at the New Hazlett Theater on the North Side, is a bit of a monster itself, some 2 1/2 hours in need of shaping."

I don't know how much this has been workshoped, but I think with productions this size, it is really important to have time to develop the story a bit more. It is certainly an ambitious project however, and I think that deserves some credit. Point park has a strong dance program...they do the Nutcracker...thats pretty ambitious too....
