I've always wanted to work on a film set. The only thing I've ever really done was to be an extra in a verizon commercial that never aired. I think this summer I'm going to try and PA in film/TV. It's just one of those businesses where you have to be at the right place at the right time if you don't know anyone who can get you a job.
This sounds like such fun. If nothing else its almost like a Halloween party with cameras, famous people, free snacks and t-shirts, and beautiful weather. Where do I sign up?
I would love to go to Kennywood and have my hair so high up that makes me that I am from 1987. I don't think I would want to be an extra for a movie, just because it is so competitive. I guess it could be an experience, but I'll be worn out pretty soon.
Experience is good and very valuable just to understand the film process, especially if you have no experience in it. Even if there is just an open set and you can come watch it's worth it. Getting paid is nice but it's not usually something you can get away with if you're not 115% committed. If you want a paying job on camera it means that you're ready to be there for the whole shoot usually.
I'm not gonna lie...I really don't see the point of this article. I thought it was going to be about some sort of complaint that the extras should be paid, but it just seemed to be about how you can be an extra with the added tidbit about how clothing styles seem to be moving back towards those of the 80s. I guess it was interesting to hear about the fact that I could be an extra or that I could have been a PA for "Smart People" last year, but this article was just all over the place.
working on a real film set is an incredible opportunity that should not be missed. that being said, it's not worth it if you're sacrificing sanity and work for it, for no pay. Movies need extras, not the other way around, so find a movie that pays their extras, THAT'S where it's at. experience and pay. But then again, Kennywood's fun, the movies gonna be great, and it'll teach you something about whether you really want to enter into this wild wild ride we call entertainment, especially film entertainment. Because film sets are often very boring places to be. Eh, who knows?
