Extended Intermission

washingtonpost.com: "Citing a severe 'cash-flow crunch,' African Continuum Theatre Company's board has decided to postpone its fall and winter shows and present a shortened season in the spring. Previously announced plays, including 'Blue Door' by Tanya Barfield, 'Intimate Apparel' by Lynn Nottage and 'The Soul Collector,' a new work by David Emerson Toney, may not be part of that short season."

It's always sad to hear about theatre companies that dont have enough funding to keep going. But companies have to be careful. It sounds like they thought moving into the state of the art Atlas theatre would boost sales, but it has been more of a cost than a benefit. Hopefully they will be able to balance things out and keep on going.

Although this is a tragic story, the Aftrican company seems to be keeping their heads high. I'm not really sure why but the article takes on a very bleak tone, almost a way of disguising the downfall of a theatre. Nonetheless, it's sad to see another theatre fall to the ground because of debt and expenses.
