Anti-union Kravis Center hard on local theater pros
Palm Beach Post: "The stagehand local union won yet another National Labor Relations Board decision in its labor dispute with the Kravis Center. Once again, the NLRB ruled that the Kravis Center illegally locked the stagehands out, and ordered the center to reinstate them and return to them back pay. Once again, the Kravis Center says it will appeal."

This seems like a really strange issue. Not only do I feel like the company is being ridiculous for worrying so much about the union (and I completely understand why the union workers needed to contact the NLRB after an illegal lock-out), but on the other hand I don't see why the company can't hire who it wants to hire. Granted, now that they've hired these workers, they can't necessarily fire them for no reason, but at the same time, why hire people from a union if you don't want to deal with it? I'm sure a lot of my questions would be answered if I understood better how this worked and what the rules are, but I feel like this article is really biased towards the workers, since it seems to argue that these "hard working professionals" should get the work they want. Since when does our economy function where workers get to pick their employers and their work place? If they want a union-friendly work place, they should go somewhere else, or accept that this place isn't going to like it.
The Kravis Center is a very fickle place. I remember once trying to get a job there a few years back or rather even have an internship and they are very particular about who they hire on for things. Personally I think its kinda crappy that they are making a huge fuss about not wanting to hire and give full capabilities of the facilities to union workers and that they should really have union people on the job especially for the facility which they have, these include a huge proscenium space and a few black box spaces and with that many facilities, hiring people to work there; you are bound to want skilled labor for the kind of venues which are there such as national tours, ect. Its just a shame that they are making such a fuss...
