Milwaukee Goes Small With Two New Lithium-Ion Tools

Tools of the Trade: "Compact, lightweight, and powerful enough to handle many jobsite demands–that's how Milwaukee Electric Tool describes its newest compact and subcompact cordless drill/drivers."

These look like they could be okay for what we do in the shop. I've been looking at drills because I don't own one of my own and would like to, but I'm not sure that I'm a fan of Milwaukees work. The biggest plus is that they are small and light giving you the ability to put that drill just where you need it in a set and hold it level as it drills. Their not all that powerful, and the battery life is not impressive. Maybe I'll get this in a few years.

I don't know about everyone else, but I like my tools to have a little heft. If they aren't heavy they seem like toys to me.

This is an interesting departure from Milwaukee's normal reputation for making quality tools that way a ton. The price, though, is pretty good. Lithium ion batteries are the future, and it's nice to see them not just thinking bigger. That said, you can fit 18v/3ah in the size of a 12v 2 ah nicad, with less weight, so the 1.4 ah is kind of lame. The 18v model looks like a good choice for people requiring a midrange tool. The v28 system, on the other hand, is pretty sweet. I mean, who doesnt want a cordless portaband.
