Now I realize that this class is open to all majors but it seems that there was no consideration given for drama majors who might want to take it. It was pitched today in my foundations class and sounded interesting until the time was announced as 6:30 - 7:20 on Thursdays. We all have crew. You all know that. It's essentially a drama class not open to drama majors. Poor planning maybe?

Why are all the cool classes during crew? Not fair. I suppose SOME drama majors could go, but I know I have crew all but the first two sessions.

I mean, I guess we have easy access to people like Dr. Chemers who is coordinating the class, and if say, I wanted to discuss the material, I could easily walk into his office, start a conversation, and subsequently have my mind blown.

Love to have that credit hour, though.

I can understand their scheduling if they plan to eventually teach us this anyway. But it seems that they are having guest professors for this class, and I have to say it would be very interesting to hear other people's take on this. I love Chemers, but I like having a variety of views when it comes to historical work.

Are you kidding me? This is the weeks I am actually on crew. I was excited for this show ever since the season committee has announced it. I'm sure we're going to end up discussing some of these issues on conservatory hours, but it is not as exciting without the guest speakers from UPitt.

Has anyone complaining about scheduling actually spoken to a crew head or advisor about possibly missing to take the class and making up the time?

I thought not.

One hour, four Thursdays might be achievable. Of course, not if you don't actually ask.

So here's what I got from what you guys said. "I love Chemers." "Chemers blows my mind." "Chemers is easy to talk to." I can live with that kind of criticism. As for the class, you'll never guess what, guys! We created this class specifically so people NOT in drama could actually take it! Shock! Gasp! Stun! Ew! Pow! Kablam! Zap! Holy Rusted Metal, Batman! But you are all most welcome and I would be very very very glad to see you there so you should all quit whining and get your crew switched so you can do it.

Nothin' but love,

-Doc

It's not whining to wish you could take a drama class that doesn't conflict with another drama class. With all due respect, it's a little dismissive to say "get your crew switched" -- the season's been planned for a while, I hear.

And it the class was being created specifically for non-drama students, why was it being pitched in both Foundations and the Guys and Dolls Design Presentation?

Thanks so much for that anonymous comment.

Nobody said whining. But its a good thought.

I hadn't said switch your crew, but its not a bad thought either. I'm sure if you found a one for one swap you'd be listened to.

Just because something Drama students aren't the primary audience doesn't mean it shouldn't be pitched to them.

But probably everyone already knows all that.

My point was, if it was something you wanted, you should DO something.
