Unions Resist 'Temptation'

Backstage: "About 100 members of the WGA West, AFTRA, SAG and Teamsters picketed FremantleMedia outside Tribune Studios in Hollywood on Thursday over the company's alleged refusal to negotiate with the guild for writers working on the game show 'Temptation.'"

Not to get off the topic of the article but why do game and reality shows need writers? It seems a little contradictory to have scripted "real TV." Not to attack the studios making these shows but one of the reasons these reality shows are cheaper to make is the fact that the typical actors are not union actors. Then they shoot outside of the country in a lot of cases to avoid paying a union production crew. I understand the desire to make the largest profit possible. It's what our economy and our society treasure. But it does seem to be bad practice to avoid using union labor all-together. Sure pinch pennies and save money but you can't have everything for nothing people.
