Burlesque revival: more nerdy than sexy?

Reuters: "Burlesque is back. Fans of the fancy form of striptease that first flourished in Depression-era downtowns can find swiveling hips and spangled lingerie weekly in at least 12 U.S. cities."

It is great how these women are using the power of their sexuality to achieve bigger things. I just think the more creative you are with what you want to say, the more people will pay attention to what you are trying to get across.

I agree with Candice, delivering information and ideas in a new medium is never a bad thing. Though it's not exactly the concept behind burlesque and sometimes it's hard to create something so intellectual from something with such a sexual base. It can often be hard to make the idea more prominent than the physical action. An example could be the movie "Mosters Ball," it was an intellectual movie, but the average audience member couldn't see past the graphic sex and it was by many written off as pornography. Sometimes pulling intellect out of sex is a conflict of interest.

This is a great idea, burlesque dancers that give their point of view on the world in which they live. It seems a good way to get and keep peoples attention and then teach them your point of view. I think these people have found that fine line between sex sells and performance for social change.
