Lyric union member vote for strike
Variety.com: "The contract negotiations between Lyric Opera of Chicago and the American Guild of Musical Artists reached a crescendo on Tuesday, when the Lyric's union members voted 88-5 to authorize a strike if an agreement can't be reached by the opening of 'La Traviata' on Saturday night."

What is going on with the Lyric lately? Hummm. It’s sad to see well established companies move in this direction. I don’t see any type of explanation issued on behalf of the Lyric explaining their reason for issuing these cuts. If the contract was working just as well as before, why go in and change things around? Seems to me that it would be easier to avoid these confrontations and leave things be.
One would hope that they would reach a conclusion in more of a timely way. For them to have to shut down something on it's opening night is just absurd. There's no reason or benefit for anyone involved.
