Clurman Arts Fest Stresses Activist Theatre

Backstage: "When Tom Oppenheim took over the Stella Adler School of Acting, an institution made famous by his grandmother and one of the country's foremost acting teachers, he decided he 'wanted to resurrect the school as a force in theatre and culture, as it was when [she] was here.' Out went what Oppenheim refers to as 'Adlerian dogma,' and in its place was what he calls 'the tradition from which I come, the idea that growth as an actor and human being are synonymous, and theatre art serves the function of allowing people to become more deeply connected with their own humanity.'"
