I must say that is awesome. I am a little disappointed that it doesn't actually roll on the tracks though. This makes me think of how I like keeping a finished product sometimes. All we seem to do in theatre is build it to dumpster it. Anyone down for some more permanent projects out there?
I think the Cut could use some new artwork.......anyone for a School of Drama Installation? Maybe at the end of the year we can put the Comedia cart on display if it's still intact.
In going in and looking at all these pictures some of the things that do make it out to Burning Man are amazing. It is so cool to see that these people are able to go out and build these huge structures or have these absurd cars. I agree that the cut could use some of these fun installations. Maybe even something as absurd as this? http://images.burningman.com/index.cgi?image=5389
did you see those bikes? all of these structures/sculptures are pretty awesome. Although this year's festival almost got ruined by the prankster, it struck me as such a theatre moment. "oh no, the set burned down and we open in three days". the crew that threw the second burning man together was quite successful in matching it to the first and only in three days. good work.
I wonder why I've never heard of this event. It sounds very interesting. Maybe we can take the really tall bike and put it at the top of walking to the sky. At least then it would look a little cool.
According to people I've talked to who have made sculptures for burning man, most of it is pre-built with a "lock and load" design built into it. A very real instance of "take everything you need cuz it won't be there".
The art cars are just like Houston's annual art car parade. Wish more cities did events like that.
The amount of infrastruture that has to be rebuilt each year in order to sustain the city is amazing. It really is breathtaking when seen from above because it looks so out of place with the surroundings. Thought it was interesting that there were mixed feelings from people about the premature burn of the man. I figured everybody would have been pretty pissed, but many people thought it was great. Kudos to the team that rebuilt.
