Court Dismisses Judd's Harassment Suit Against Weinstein

The Mary Sue: Ashley Judd has been talking about her experience with Harvey Weinstein for years. In 2015, she told Variety a story of being harassed by a then-unnamed Hollywood Studio mogul. In October of 2017—just before the resurgence of the viral #MeToo movement—she recounted the accusations again, this time naming Harvey Weinstein as that mogul.

I've been saying for months that even with the progressive movement that's been washing over the country lately, there's still gonna be an uphill battle to actually get things to change or improve, especially in the eyes of the law. A great example of this is the recent allegations against R Kelly. These allegations are substantial because they aren't recent. His child pornography and sexual abuse has been public for a long time, but the law wasn't able to add the gunpower needed to bring him down, and as a result people just overlooked it. I'd like to think that we're in a new world where even without prosecution people will still be held accountable, but I'm not sure. There's a good chance that after 10 years and a couple apologies, a lot of these men will be able to return to the spotlight, just like Louis CK has already attempted to. I really want to believe that this is a movement that will actually change the world, but historically it's been nearly impossible to change things, especially when our government won't support it. I can say a lot about the Me Too movement in relation to our current president and that hypocrisy, but all I'll say is that I'm hopeful that the world really is changing and really will get better from this. I really do hope that this is the beginning of a change, but I'm still doubtful.
