BLOCKED AND BRAKED

valerie-inertie-cyr-wheel-aerialist: The new season has just begun. Entitled "THE ONE Grand Show", the Palast once again promises "Glamour à la Las Vegas". The show lives from singing, ballet and artistic performances; the protagonists offer a feast for the eyes in Jean-Paul Gaultier costumes. There is no continuous story line in the classic sense – Roland Welke's show is one of visual images.

The level of unprofessionalism, unpreparedness, and just disrespect for everyone throughout this article is astounding. To begin with the accident itself, it sounds like proper rigging and training were not used to do this stunt—that is the first step to preventing an event like this from happening. Then, when you look at the first response to the accident, I cannot believe there was no thought that it could go wrong and no plan for how to respond. Not only did the aerial artist hang there injured for 30 seconds and then have to lower herself down using rope and her fractured hand, but the audience had to watch the entire thing before a blackout happened. The disregard for her safety and the audience’s experience could not be worse. Lastly, to hear about her experience after this event is even more frustrating. This company sounded disgusting. This industry is not the place to respond to a horrific mistake by kicking the affected to the curb and turning their noses away; what they did to her will get around and just ruin their reputation even more. I truly hope companies like this rework themselves to prevent situations like this from happening in the future, and I hope I never have to encounter professionals like this.
