Paramount completes $111B Warner merger, creating “Skydance” behemoth

Ars Technica: The post-merger company is called Skydance, taking the name of a firm that Paramount bought in a separate deal last year. The new Skydance combines two of the largest movie studios, streaming services Paramount+ and HBO Max, CBS, CNN, “and a portfolio of live sports including CBS Sports and TNT Sports, as well as a deep programming library and expansive collection of brands and franchises,” Skydance said today in a press release announcing completion of the deal.

I just found out about this Paramount merger because one of my family members enlightened me about it. Paramount has merged with a lot of companies in the past 10 years, so this isn't really shocking, but it's kind of exciting that they're merging with Warner Bros. and HBO this time. I didn't realize that the root cause of this merger was that lawsuits had begun to arise. I also didn't realize that this merger had made its way to the Supreme Court and that it was almost blocked, and that there was a last-ditch effort to prevent the merger from happening. When my family member first told me about it, I was all happy and dandy, but this seems to be a lot deeper than what people are leading it on to be. It seems that this company is now in 80 billion dollars in debt, which is insane. Hopefully this new merger can recoup quickly.

I think that mergers such as these are never the best idea especially one of this scale, something becoming more of a conglomerate than it already is gives them more room to see what they can push, since they have so much IP I can see them doing way more stuff than they did before, espe since this is paramount we’re talking about, the company I’d trust the least with anything(however I am glad Netflix didn’t win the bidding cause I feel like that would drastically ruin the movie theatre scene so I guess it could’ve been a bit worse) paramount is known I say to disrespect a lot of their shows and movies especially animation(cancellations, not putting things out, etc)which Warner bros has a lot of iconic animated IP so I’m a bit scared to see how paramount is gonna handle them given their track record
