Panasonic and Holovis bring shared immersion to mall

AV Magazine: Immersive technology is often associated with individual experiences; think headsets, personal screens and digital environments designed for one user at a time. At Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth, Holovis took a different approach.

From a theater perspective, a huge amount of what we do is trying to create shared experience on a large scale just like this. That makes me wonder if a natural next step is to take this technology of immersive video, and turn it into performance, or maybe even performance art--after all, it is already seemingly instillation art, so why not add some performance. On the other hand, it could also be possibly added to already existing live theater, such as the show Fool for Love, which already has semi-immersive projections. Or, the show X, which also uses surround sound, like the immersive experience, could incorporate that immersive projections as well. Just generally, this level of unified immersion holds a lot of potential for already existing shows and new artwork.
