Access to 3d textures for visualization is super cool. Being able to put textures onto objects is something I have barely done but being able to make more realistic visualizations is very intriguing. If there is an easy pathway to set this up for autocad to help visualize what we are going to build is something that would make an excellent showcase for portfolios as we do not design things and this work should be done by designers it puts the effort into a very low category for how much we would be willing to do to get this to work. There is a material visualization feature built into autocad that can apply at least prebuilt textures onto 3D solids but I have not tried this feature or adding new textures in to cover any solids. For Delta Millworks this will also let clients and architects visualize their product and I’m sure will drive customers to purchase their siding and cladding.

These days, it feels like the process of designing and making scenery is all on a computer, up until the project actually hits the shop floor. I think that these wood textures could be really useful for designers or detailers who work in 3D, to help give a more realistic preview of the set to the creative team. Having just took a class on advanced AutoCAD and Revit, I realized that it feels frustratingly difficult to find realistic, high-quality textures for certain materials. Recently, for example, I wanted a texture for a colorful VCT floor, similar to what we have in Purnell. Something so common and simple felt like it would be included as standard in Revit, but I had to download assets from a third-party website and put them together myself to get what I wanted. I think that designers that 3D model should know how to put textures like these into their model to really make it look good.
