Depite being from Texas and living quite literally 7 minutes from the main and original Six Flags, I have not been since I was in third grade. I always hear amazing things about it, obviously as it is one of the most renowned theme park chains in the country. I know about many theme parks doing haunted houses or themed scary activities but I did not realize six flags did any, nor that it was “leading the halloween industry in selling naming rights to haunted houses.” I am still somewhat confused as to the difference between a haunted house and a haunted maze, but I hope to explore the ones at Kennywood this year. I forget that these haunted attractions are within our industry and I love Halloween so I want to go visit some to get a better sense of what they are and how they run. It is definitely something for me to look into for jobs opportunities in the future.

I personally HATE anything Halloween or scary related. Being jumpsacred is quite literally my least favorite thing ever. So parks like this are not for me. I have gone through a haunted maze one time and it was fine and I did it but it was not worth it for me. My least favorite part was actually not the maze but the entrance to it where people were just wandering around and scaring you. I was very overwhelmed. But with all that being said I know these are very popular and from the technical standpoint they are very impressive especially the nicer and bigger ones like six flags. I would love to work in one to get the experience especially if I knew what was happening and wasn't the one being scared. I think they have really unique design challenges and would be wildly entertaining to work with. Even then I would consider going to this if I found myself near it just for the entertainment.

I have been to Six Flags once in my life. I'm not a big fan of rollercoasters or haunted attractions. However, the local amusement park in my home state has had haunted attractions for as long as I can remember, usually changing them out every couple of years. Haunted mazes (corn mazes turned haunted attraction at the end of season) and forests pop up in more areas than they don’t with one local attraction finding its final home in a prominent building in the downtown business district. There was a haunted forest minutes away from my undergrad campus and the department would encourage us to get jobs working at the attraction. It was a good way to learn at least bits and pieces of what it takes to put on these attractions usually from a performer perspective and how to protect yourself from patrons.
