“Seagull” at Quantum Theatre

The Pittsburgh Tatler: If you were to ask me what I love most about Chekhov as a writer, I’d probably say that it’s his ability to reveal – through dialogue and situation – how most people are wrapped up in their own little dramas, a circumstance that makes them (us?) both comically and tragically oblivious.

I LOVE the Seagull. I know it is hated for being boring or whatever but I love the show. I saw Quantum was doing and realized there are a lot of CMU alumni on it. I did not get to see the production but something I saw from the photos and loved is the location of the show and set. Something that is so important to the show is the setting and specifically the outside. I think seeing a production of it outside would make me fall deeper in love with it. It is such a simple show, it does not move fast but that is the whole point. It is about “normal” people fighting through life with subtle theatrical elements. I wish I could have seen this but reading this review and knowing the people that worked on it I can only imagine it was absolutely incredible. The seagull is one of and will always be one of my dream shows to work on.
