Houston Public Media: You've got the screenplay, and now you need to get your passion project in front of professionals with connections. But how? That's what the Houston Media Conference is for.

I think the Houston filmmaking conference is an incredible initiative that allows filmmakers to network and connect with the industry, particularly local to Houston. I especially think this event is beneficial because though Houston has a vast media presence in the industry, it’s not necessarily considered to be one of the biggest in comparison to other places like New York City and Los Angeles. One of the hardest parts about being in the media industry is that no matter how great or how much potential your project might have, the most difficult part is getting it out there and having the right people pick up your project. I wish there was a little more elaboration in this article about who exactly attends the conference, what companies and public figures, but I also understand that privacy is integral. Overall, I hope this initiative truly allows creatives to connect in a meaningful way with new projects being picked up by the right people who can get new projects and film ideas out there.

The Houston Media Conference is a really great way for film and content creators to make their work known while also being able to network and gain connections. The article states that the Houston media producing community is isolated compared to areas like L.A. and even Austin. Austin is also starting to bloom in media creation, and I hope that Houston will be next. As a Houstonian, I know that this city has a very rich culture and art, but the art that is produced is staying domestic and is not branching out to any other major cities. It is most likely because of what the article mentioned about how creatives are focused on creating new projects rather than focusing on the business side of things. The incentive fund being put in place, I think, will really start to allow media creators to take off on producing more within the state and will gain those connections due to now having the money to market and advertise. With this conference and this fund, I hope to see Houston become a hub for media production.
