It makes me hopeful to see things like this, especially now with the Kennedy Center and Trump’s comments about the Smithsonian Museums (I am fearful for how long or maybe more realistically short of a time it will take for him to start trying to shut those down). I am intrigued by what parts of civil rights history they will include in the museum, especially since it seems like they are just “donating” the money so people will be more likely to accept their casino. The second paragraph of this article mentions that they promised a “donation” to a health center if they supported the casino idea, so while they do not mention it in the article, it seems like that is the subtext of the donation. This makes me upset because then it is not a donation, it is a bribe. So this is a very good thing and I appreciate people trying to make sure that the real history of our country is not completely lost, but I do not appreciate the sentiment behind it. When people do not actually care about the things they are doing and are doing them solely for their own gain especially when the thing is something that a majority of the community does not want, it taints the original idea.
