Looking through these pictures and seeing all of these different characters being brought to life in such stunning detail was really astonishing. Not only is she applying all of these looks to herself, which I imagine must be an added challenge on top of the already difficult task of recreating these characters, but she is doing it without any sort of formal schooling or training whatsoever. Even more than that though is the fact that this work really made me think about how crucial makeup and SFX makeup is to creating the character you see on the stage or on the screen. Of course, a lot of higher-budget movies and TV shows do these sorts of larger-than-life looks with VFX or through other means, but the sheer accuracy and effectiveness of these looks prove that practical effects still have a place in entertainment and the people that are able to accomplish these amazing feats of fundamentally transforming the human form and appearance are vastly underappreciated and underrecognized.
