It is incredibly exciting to see some of the cutting edge theatrical design elements like automation and projection spreading across the world. Of course I’ve seen stuff like projection design and media as well as incredible automation in and around set pieces on broadway shows and in videos of pieces from other massive theater hubs around the world, but even the nicer regional theaters around where I grew up had nothing close to this level of technology. Companies like TAIT who specialize in spreading this kind of thing seem to me like a form of transference of knowledge, and as the technology becomes more and more streamlined, and in many cases cheaper, I am excited to see how regional and community theaters start to use it. I remember my drama teacher reporting that a projection company had a booth at a theatre educator’s convention as if it was a joke. Perhaps in a few years, it won’t be a joke.
