Walt Disney World Adds Vaccine Requirement for Unionized Employees
collider.com: Walt Disney World took another step into ensuring all its staff gets vaccinated by reaching an agreement with the Service Trades Council Union, the largest union associated with Disney. Last month, Walt Disney World had already announced vaccination would be mandatory for all salaried and non-union U.S. employees. Now, the deal with the STCU will help Walt Disney World regulate over 30.000 Disney cast members filiated with the union.

My first thought is that I’m quite surprised that Disney does in fact have union employees. They seem like the type of company that would be aggressively anti-union. This is a good next step, requiring the safe and effective vaccine to be used so as not to transmit anything else. I also appreciate them setting up their own vaccination clinic because people have been saying it’s difficult to get time off work to go get vaccinated which is certainly true for lower-paid employees. Two months is also ample time to get the shots and it will hopefully be another significant group of people in Florida to get vaccinated that may offset the number of people unwilling to get vaccinated in that state. Hopefully this will also set a precedent in the industry for other major corporations to do the same thing in an attempt to bring this public health emergency under control.
